YASI Testimonials : Sien Vandevelde

Sien, a sunshine smile from Belgium

Dear friends,

First of all I want to thank our mentors for the DVD and the newspaper, so: thank you Sarah, Daniel, Efthymios, Mads, Chiara and Aleksandra J. Second of all I want to thank you guys, because during Yasi you were so nice to me: the little, smiling, socks hating Belgian. I love you all!

Also in my life there has been changing a lot. Since January I follow Latin-Modern Languages in the 5th grade of high school (Before I followed Latin-Mathematics, but in contrast to Sofie, my sciences and maths weren’t that good.) But I really like my lessons now and I’m glad I made the decision.

Thanks to Yasi my “debate knot” has developed a lot. In our Dutch lesson, we had a debate about tobacco and alcohol and my friends said they were impressed of my skills, so thank you Yasi!

After school, I help little children with making their homework, I’m still a member of Amnesty International at school. In the holidays I am a leader on a playground  for little children and I do a lot of crazy activities with them J. I am also a member of a youth movement, called KSJ PIUS X and I am in my last year before becoming a leader.

In march I’ll go to the European Parlament with 9 other pupils of my school for a simulation with 110 other schools of Belgium. We are the committee on employment and social affairs, and we need to make a resolution about the subject: Which common priorities should the European institutions and the main political, economic and social stakeholders agree upon so as to take up the challenges of againg, in particular through innovative solutions that would benefit to all generations? We will stay there for 2 days. It is all really interesting and I am really excited about it.

Best of luck to everyone who organize a follow-up program!

I miss you all and hope to see you soon!

Until the next Hello!

Sien

a great memory from YASI!
